Problems plaguing power supplies to more than 5 million US households threaten to reduce efficiency and damage home appliances, with Chicago the worst-affected area.

That’s according to new data from Whisker Labs Inc., which tracks power-quality metrics in real-time via about 850,000 residential sensors.
