Wolfspeed Inc. has halted a plan to build a $3 billion semiconductor factory in Germany, Economy Minister Robert Habeck confirmed, in a setback to the country’s plans to shore up its domestic supply chain.

“There were great hopes associated with it in the Saarland, a region that is undergoing major changes,” Habeck told reporters during a trip in India. Wolfspeed’s decision will mean federal and state subsidies that were promised won’t be paid out. “This is not something I am pleased about,” Habeck said.
