Electric vehicle sales have hit the brakes in Europe and the US in recent months, as cost-conscious drivers have opted for cars with exhaust pipes instead. Yet one company that’s pushing back on the trend is ride-sharing giant Uber, which is not only adding zero emission models to its fleet, but also lobbying regulators to demand more EVs on the road.

On Zero, Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi tells Akshat Rathi where electric cars fit into its short and long-term green goals — and how he expects the company will continue to evolve. “We think that the future for Uber is electric, shared, autonomous and ultimately multimodal as well,” he says, as the company is actively attaching its brand to everything from trains, planes and boats.
