Slovakia aims to be firmly anchored in the European Union and NATO, the nation’s new president said as he sought to downplay criticism about its Russia-friendly government.

At the same time, the nation doesn’t want to play only a passive role but rather wants to be a co-creator of policy at these institutions, President Peter Pellegrini told reporters in Prague on Wednesday.
