Finland’s budget deficit will probably worsen through 2026 compared to the previous projections, the Finance Ministry said, highlighting the risk of breaching the European Union’s rules on public finances.
The gap of overall public finances is set to widen to 3.7% of gross domestic product this year, versus the April forecast of 3.5%, the ministry said in its latest forecast on Monday. The deficit will probably narrow to 3.1% next year — still above the EU’s 3%-threshold — and 2.6% in 2026, compared with earlier estimates of 2.8% and 2.2%, respectively.
