In Austria, Parcel Carriers Can Now Enter Homes for Deliveries

A smart lock system allows postal workers to deliver packages directly inside homes nationwide for the first time, sparking both interest and security concerns.

Imagine coming home to find your package waiting inside your apartment rather than on the doorstep. Austria is turning this vision into reality by allowing postal workers to deliver parcels directly inside people’s properties.

Starting in July, Austria will be the first country in Europe to roll out an in-home delivery service to the general public, spearheaded by the nation’s leading mail service, Oesterreichische Post AG. The option, which has been tested since 2021, will be available for no extra cost to all Austrians over the age of 18.
