More countries are pushing back against European Union rules designed to protect forests and restore nature as politicians try to stave off angry farmers before June’s elections.

Several member states are calling on the EU to revise its rules on deforestation, compounding opposition to the law within the bloc and elsewhere. The regulations are aimed at restricting imports of commodities from countries where forests have been cleared to make way for agriculture.
