France’s greenhouse gas emissions fell 4.8% last year as households and businesses cut energy consumption to offset rising prices, and a rebound in nuclear power trimmed the use of natural gas.
Emissions of carbon dioxide, methane and other gases that contribute to global warming fell to 384.5 million tons of CO2 equivalent last year from 403.8 million tons in 2022, according to preliminary estimates from Citepa, a non-profit organization that measures emissions for the French environment ministry and other parties.
