Hong Kong Says City Won’t Prohibit Popular Messaging Apps

Hong Kong said it has no plans to prohibit any social media platforms, rejecting a suggestion from some members of the public that it ban messaging apps such as Telegram and Signal under its upcoming domestic security law.
During the public consultation period regarding the legislation, known as Article 23, the government received feedback that it should ban the messaging apps because they had become a “hotbed of crime,” according to a report released Wednesday.
