There’s a guy who works in my industry. He’s really talented. And really … attractive. And he’s up for a job in my department, a job I would oversee. My question is pretty basic: Should you hire someone on whom you have a serious crush?

It’s tough. I’ve had crushes on co-workers. In one instance, it was a crush on a younger guy whose work I (partially) oversaw, but there was nothing to be done about it. I never flirted. (I don’t think.) And I was pretty sure that any interest or feelings of affection went in only one direction, from me to him. Someday, now that I don’t work there and now that we’re friends, I might tell him how I once felt. But probably not. Life is too short for that kind of potential embarrassment.
