The Philippines foiled an attempted cyberattack on a government website by a hacker “operating from within China,” according to a statement released by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s communications office.
The attempted hack of the Philippines’ Overseas Workers Welfare Administration site took place in recent weeks, Information and Communications Technology Undersecretary Jeffrey Ian Dy said in the statement. Private domains including Marcos’s own website were also targeted but the attacks were thwarted, Dy said, describing the incidents as an “advanced persistent threat because of its clandestine nature.”
