China has rebuked New Zealand for flirting with the Aukus security pact, issuing a veiled warning that further steps toward membership could undermine trade with its largest export market.
The Chinese Embassy in Wellington on Friday issued a statement condemning comments by New Zealand and Australian ministers after a meeting yesterday in Melbourne, at which the two countries pledged to work more closely on defense and explore opportunities in Aukus.
