Bulgaria is closing in on a government target to complete preparations to adopt the euro in early 2025 after years of work, according to a senior central bank official.

The Balkan country has said joining the single currency will help boost living standards and cut business costs in what is now the European Union’s poorest member. But while it’s met criteria for fiscal discipline and low debt levels, Sofia had to postpone a plan to adopt the euro this year after inflation surged to the highest level in decades.
