Beverage heavyweight Suntory Holdings Ltd. has made a multimillion-dollar investment in an eco-conscious coffee startup that uses dates and sunflower seeds instead of coffee beans.

The exact amount was not revealed but Seattle-based Atomo Coffee Inc. said Thursday the investment will support its mission to limit deforestation and other environmental impacts of coffee production.
