The US Federal Trade Commission said it’s keeping a close watch on competition issues in the cloud- computing industry, focusing particularly on the impact of artificial intelligence on the market, officials said during an open meeting on Thursday.

The agency, which enforces antitrust and consumer protection laws, collected more than 100 public comments about cloud computing from industry players, policy groups and academics after requesting input earlier this year. FTC officials said they will continue the inquiry with a focus on so-called “generative” artificial intelligence, a popular form of AI that generates images and words based on prompts.
