President Xi Jinping’s sweeping anti-graft drive is on track to ensnare a record number of senior cadres this year, showing the Chinese leader still appears wary of possible threats to his power after securing a precedent-defying third term.
Beijing has announced graft probes into 41 senior officials since January, according to a Bloomberg News analysis of statements posted by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, the Communist Party’s anti-corruption watchdog. The tally matches 2014’s record and doesn’t include two ousted ministers who are likely being investigated.
