India to Seek Bids for $960 Million Battery-Making Program

India plans to invite bids for an 80 billion-rupee ($960 million) incentive program to manufacture electric-vehicle batteries in the country, according to people familiar with the matter.
The goal is to establish advanced chemistry battery plants with total output of 20 gigawatt hours, said the people, declining to be named as the plans are private. Bids will be sought from potential investors next month, they said.
