Ahold Doubles Romania Business With $1.4 Billion Profi Deal

Dutch retail giant Koninklijke Ahold Delhaize NV will buy Romanian grocery retailer Profi Rom Food SRL in a move that will more than double its business and turn it into the market leader in the Balkan nation.

Polish private equity firm Mid Europa Partners LLP will sell the Romanian chain to the Zaandam, Netherlands-based grocer based on an enterprise value of approximately €1.3 billion ($1.4 billion), according to an e-mailed statement on Monday. Closing is expected in 2024, pending approval from the competition authorities.
