New York City is creating more than 100 car-free zones on Halloween in the hopes of increasing pedestrian safety as part of its expanded Trick-or-Streets program.

The second year of the collaboration between City Hall and its Department of Transportation will include pedestrianized streets, festivals and parades across the five boroughs. Many areas are already a part of the city’s Open Streets program, an initiative launched in 2020 that facilitates temporary closures to create more open-air spaces free of cars and other hazards.
