US Housing Crisis Fuels Hope for a Bipartisan Tax Bill
Despite dysfunction in Congress, advocates say lawmakers could still pass the Affordable Housing Credit Improvement Act, a boost to low-income home construction.

But the US housing crisis might just be dire enough, distributed enough and desperate enough to have a shot.
Over a third of Congress — 172 representatives and 30 senators, evenly divided between Republicans and Democrats — have voiced public support for the Affordable Housing Credit Improvement Act (AHCIA). That’s likely the strongest show of bipartisan support for any tax bill currently before Congress.
