UK Climate Retreat Risks Killing Ambition at COP28, Adviser Says

Britain’s new anti-green attitude is rubbing off on other countries just as momentum is needed ahead of the next UN climate talks, says the UK’s independent climate adviser.

The UK’s green policy retreat will make net zero targets harder to reach and risks sapping enthusiasm at UN climate talks, the Climate Change Committee has said.

The UK government’s official climate adviser said that government rhetoric is weakening business and consumer confidence, damaging progress towards the roll-out of electric cars and heat pumps and potentially hampering international climate negotiations due to take place in Dubai from the end of November.
