The Powerball jackpot has surged to $1.73 billion, the second-largest in the lottery’s 31-year history.

To take home the prize, the numbers on a player’s ticket must match the five white balls and red powerball. Drawings take place each Monday, Wednesday and Saturday, but the odds of victory are long. A ticket holder has a one in 292.2 million chance of winning.
