Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has given the go-ahead for officials to finalize a deal to allow the UK to re-join the European Union’s €95.5 billion ($103 billion) Horizon science program, according to people familiar with the matter.
The UK is expected to announce the agreement as soon as this week, with only minor details yet to be ironed out, said the people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity. A deal will allow close ties between Europe’s top research hubs to resume, after the UK was frozen out of the fund while tensions flared after Brexit.
