Qatar’s Economy Stalls After Last Year’s World Cup and Gas Boom

Qatar’s economy slowed during the first three months of the year as lower energy prices and an end to a construction boom proceeding last December’s World Cup took a toll on the Gulf country.
Gross domestic product shrank nearly 4% on an annualized basis from the previous quarter, according to data from the Planning and Statistics Authority on Thursday. The year-on-year figure for the period was 2.7%.
