Long-Delayed Georgia Atomic Reactor Goes Into Service 7 Years Late

Southern Co.’s long-delayed expansion project at its Vogtle nuclear plant in Georgia is finally delivering power to the grid, seven years late and with a budget that more than doubled to over $30 billion.
Unit 3, the first of two additional reactors under construction at the site, began commercial operations Monday, the Atlanta—based company said in a statement. Unit 4 is nearing completion and received approval last week to begin loading fuel.
