European natural gas prices were mixed on Wednesday as traders weighed rising fuel stockpiles against the impact of a worsening heat wave in the south of the continent.
Dutch front-month futures, Europe’s benchmark, settled 0.4% lower after sharp swings earlier, while the UK equivalent contract gained. The moves suggest that extreme temperatures in parts of the region continue to test the market’s ability to cope with higher demand, even though supply risks appear to be contained for now.
