The European Union wants to strengthen its food and farming systems, while encouraging greater resource sustainability as part of the sweeping Green Deal strategy to reach climate neutrality by 2050.
The European Commission, the EU’s regulator, proposed on Wednesday a set of laws that tackle gene-edited plants, food and textile waste, soil health and seeds. They will complement an earlier package to green sectors from transport to energy and trade in a bid to put Europe on track to meet its new 2030 goal of reducing emissions by at least 55% from 1990 levels.
