Mayors from 20 different cities in the Americas have been selected as new members of a philanthropic initiative that aims to help local governments leverage their data to better understand residents and improve public services.
Established in 2022 by Bloomberg Philanthropies with a $60 million investment, the City Data Alliance is adding leaders including Washington, DC’s Muriel Bowser; Tomas Vodanovic in Maipú, Chile; and Bruce Harrell of Seattle, according to a press release. The group will meet with global experts and former New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg at Johns Hopkins University during a three-day program to discuss how to best use data to strengthen city governments. (Bloomberg Philanthropies is the philanthropic organization of Michael Bloomberg, the founder and majority owner of Bloomberg LP, which owns Bloomberg CityLab.)
