Sweden Set for EU’s Worst 2023 Economic Slump, Commission Says

Sweden will probably undergo the worst economic contraction in the European Union this year as a faltering housing market and rate increases dampen investments and consumer spending, the European Commission said in its latest forecast.

The commission now expects a 0.5% drop in Sweden’s economic output this year, and while that is a marginal improvement from the 0.6% contraction it projected in its previous report, it is still bleaker than the outlook for all the other 26 member states in the European Union.
