European Union negotiators agreed on a final version of a €43 billion ($47.2 billion) plan to make Europe a key player in a global race to ramp up the production of semiconductors.

Countries around the world are investing billions in their domestic semiconductor industries, following supply chain disruptions during the Covid-19 pandemic and amid increasing geopolitical tensions between the US and China.
