Saudi’s Savvy Games Buys Gamemaker Scopely For $4.9 Billion

Savvy Games Group, part of the Saudi government’s Public Investment Fund, has agreed to acquire the closely held game publisher Scopely Inc. for $4.9 billion, the companies said Wednesday in a statement.

Founded in 2011, Scopely publishes free-to-play, social games like Yahtzee With Buddies, Stumble Guys and Marvel Strike Force. The Culver City, California-based company has raised money multiple times over the years from investors such as the Chernin Group. It’s often grown through acquisitions, including that of the FoxNextBloomberg Terminal video-game business and GSN GamesBloomberg Terminal, a unit of Sony Group.
