The chief executive officer of the world’s fifth-largest container carrier said he expects demand for global shipping to rebound after a slump in volumes that lasts through midyear.

“I personally would expect that the first half is still going to be down, potentially quite significantly versus last year, but then we will see a recovery,” Hapag-Lloyd AG CEO Rolf Habben Jansen said on a conference call Tuesday.
