Rheinmetall to Start Making Anti-Aircraft Rounds for Ukraine

German defense contractor Rheinmetall AG will begin manufacturing ammunition right away for the Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft guns that the government is supplying to Ukraine, according to Defense Minister Boris Pistorius.

Ahead of a meeting with NATO defense ministers in Brussels, Pistorius said contracts have been signed and production will begin “immediately.” The Sueddeutsche Zeitung reportedBloomberg Terminal earlier that Rheinmetall would manufacture 300,000 rounds of ammunition at its site in Lower Saxony and begin deliveries to Ukraine in July.
