A security guard at the British Embassy in Berlin spied for Russia in exchange for cash, UK lawyers claimed at a court that’s poised to deliver a ruling on his sentence for violating state secrecy.

David Smith, 58, who worked at the embassy in the German capital, has already pleaded guilty to multiple breaches of the UK’s Official Secrets Act. Smith, who will be sentenced later this week, has said he wasn’t paid for the information.
