A winter storm bringing snow and ice across the central and northeastern US will likely cause minor to moderate flooding Wednesday night around New York City and Long Island.
Little more than a few flurries will drop in New York, but winds will rise and tides along the Queens shoreline could rise as much as 2.5 feet above normal, bringing water to flood-prone areas, said Dave Radell, a National Weather Service meteorologist in Upton, New York. In addition, parts of Brooklyn and Staten Island, as well as sites on Long Island, Connecticut and New Jersey, could experience coastal flooding.
