US union membership dropped to a record low, even as workers organized the most work stoppages since 2005, including at high-profile companies such as Starbucks Corp. and Amazon.com Inc.

The rate of union membership, or the percentage of wage and salary workers who were part of a union, was 10.1% last year, according to Bureau of Labor Statistics data released Thursday. That’s down 0.2 percentage points from 2021 and lower than the pre-pandemic level of 2019.
