Hello again.

Joe Biden began the year with a surge of political momentum (especially compared with the Republicans’ disarray) but that seemed to change this week. The US president is facing a special counsel investigation over classified documents dating from his vice presidency found at his home and private office — a problem the White House compounded by keeping from the public for months. He might have tamped down some of the furor, one expert noted, had his team been as forthcoming with the public as they say they’ve been with federal authorities.

Republicans managed to eke out a narrow majority in the House but it was the fifth midterm in a row in which voters under 30 favored congressional Democrats. Some GOP activists say the party can’t afford to ignore support from Gen Z and millennials.
