Rick Singer, the college-admissions consultant at the heart of the “Varsity Blues” scandal in which wealthy parents paid bribes to get their kids into elite universities, was ordered by a judge to serve 3 1/2 years in prison.

It’s the longest sentence handed down among more than 50 coaches, associates and parents convicted in the biggest college admissions scam the US has ever prosecuted.
