It’s definitely been a sobering year for dealmakers after the record toppling of 2021, with merger and acquisition values down by roughly a third and the initial public offering market effectively shut.
Inflation, rising interest rates and war are the main culprits, stoking recession fears that have kept investors on the sidelines and hit the availability of financing for deals. While there have been pockets of increased activity, bankers and lawyers will be looking for a revival across most major sectors and regions in 2023.
