Mortgage rates in the US fell for a fourth week, offering hope that improved affordability will bring more buyers to the flagging housing market.

The average for a 30-year, fixed loan slid to 6.33% from 6.49% last week, Freddie Mac said in a statement Thursday. That’s down from 7.08% last month. Prior to this year, the measure hadn't climbed above 7% since 2002.
