Vietnam police detained an assistant of a deputy prime minister on alleged abuse of power amid a probe into a producer of Covid-19 test kits, the latest in an anti-graft campaign that has caught several senior officials and business executives.
Nguyen Van Trinh was accused of intervening in the licensing of Viet A Technology’s Covid-19 test kits at the health ministry that contravenes the law and causes “very serious” losses for the state, according to a statement from the public security ministry. He is the assistant to Vu Duc Dam, one of four deputy prime ministers and who oversees science and technology.
