The surge in people leaving their jobs during the US economic recovery from the Covid-19 recession might have been a by-product in part of a program designed to keep people employed, a new study shows.

The Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) was first enacted in the spring of 2020, and an additional round was approved in December of that year. It was aimed at small businesses, and offered them federal money in return for keeping workers on their payrolls.
