South African Ports Operator Doubles Wage Offer to Avert Strike

South Africa’s state-owned ports and freight-rail company will double its wage-increase offer to labor unions as it seeks to avert a strike.
Transnet SOC Ltd. will formally propose that workers get a 3% pay increase, spokeswoman Ayanda Shezi said in an emailed statement on Wednesday. The previous offer was for a 1.5% raise.
