NYC Relocates Migrant Tent Shelter Before Its Opening, Citing Flood Risk

New York City is moving a tent shelter that was being built for some of the thousands of recently arrived asylum seekers to a new location on Randall’s Island before it even opened, citing the risk of flooding.
The city had previously planned to temporarily house migrants at Orchard Beach in the Bronx, which is exposed to the elements and in a remote, coastal location away from public transit.
