German Transport Minister Volker Wissing said he remains upbeat about the outlook for Europe’s biggest economy even as the country’s freight industry faces what he called “probably the biggest challenge since World War II.”

Problems including overstretched rail infrastructure and low water levels on the Rhine River that have restricted barge traffic are making life difficult but overall the situation is “sustainable,” Wissing said Monday in an interview with Bloomberg TV in Berlin.
