The front-runners in the crowded Democratic primary race for a newly created congressional district in New York City are calling for reforms at the largest federal pretrial detention center in the US.
Carlina Rivera, Yuh-Line Niou, Dan Goldman and Mondaire Jones joined New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams and Comptroller Brad Lander at a Tuesday press conference outside the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, where they implored the federal government to remedy conditions at the jail. The event comes just a week ahead of the primary.
