The Defense Department electronically wiped the phones of some former top officials who served under then-President Donald Trump, including deleting text messages related to last year’s attack on the US Capitol.

Government lawyers made that admission in a court filing tied to a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit by American Oversight, a government watchdog group.
