EU Starts Probe on Hungary for Locals-Only Fuel-Price Cap

The European Union launched a probe against Hungary over a fuel-price cap that only applies to those with local license plates.

“Acting unilaterally at national level and introducing discriminatory treatments goes against the principles of free movement in the Single Market and cannot constitute a solution,” the European Commission said in a statement on Friday. It said it was launching a so-called infringement procedure against Hungary, a process that may end in a lawsuit.
