The Biden administration is discussing expanding eligibility for second Covid-19 booster shots to adults under 50 amid the spread of the BA.5 omicron variant that accounts for most US cases.

Conversations about expanding the second booster recommendations “have been going on for a while,” White House coronavirus coordinator Ashish Jha said Tuesday in a press briefing, stressing that any final decision will be made by officials at the Food and Drug Administration and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. “The decision is purely up to them.”
