Banco Santander SA nominated insider Héctor Grisi as its first non-Spanish chief executive officer, clarifying the bank’s leadership more than three years after the botched appointment of Andrea Orcel extended the tenure of incumbent Jose Antonio Alvarez.
Grisi, 55, will take over on Jan. 1, 2023 following a transition period, according to a regulatory filing Friday, confirming an earlier report by Bloomberg News. The appointment requires approval from the European Central Bank.
